miiCard Has Passport For Success At Scottish Tech Awards

Online identity verification service miiCard is today celebrating after being crowned winner of the “Technology Innovation in Financial Services” category at the 2012 ScotlandIS Digital Technology Awards. The company was also runner up in the “Best Newcomer” and “Best New Product or Service” categories.

miiCard is an innovation in online identity verification and financial services that allows a consumer to prove, for the first time, their real identity to bank regulation standard (Anti-Money Laundering – AML and Know Your Customer- KYC), without the need for a physical ID check and will be used to support the full sale of financial products purely on the Internet.

The inability to easily authenticate a user’s identity online has long been a significant barrier to trade with between 70% and 90% of all online financial transactions terminated when the customer is required to provide physical proof of identity.

The win follows a period of sustained growth for the Edinburgh based company at a time when the demand to prove real identities online continues to build. In May miiCard secured £1.6 million from a mix of angel and venture capital investment groups to support the company’s expansion into the US and accelerate the growth and adoption of its “digital passport” amongst businesses and consumers.

James Varga, miiCard CEO, comments: “We’re delighted to have won this award – there are so many exciting and innovative Scottish technology companies so it’s an absolute honour to have this recognition from the industry. I’m incredibly proud of the whole team and we’d like to thank all who have helped us get this far.”

The prestigious Digital Technology Awards were organised by industry body ScotlandIS and held at The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow. With eight categories, the awards showcase excellence within Scotland’s digital technology industries, rewarding the innovation, expertise and ambition of businesses, large and small.
