What Does The Future of Social Media Look Like?

Tuesday, May 8th, 2018

With JD Wetherspoon ditching their social channels last month, does this signify a change in the PR landscape?

Sure, social media isn’t the be all and end all of PR but as a communication tool it has been important for businesses and PR professionals alike.

While it seems the platform sprung up overnight, in truth its origins date back to the 70s. Cast your mind back to the era and what comes to mind: Travolta’s all white disco three piece? Perms? What most won’t remember is the creation of the first digital chat room in Illinois, the earliest iteration of social media.

Fast-forward a few decades and you hit the noughties. Myspace and Bebo were the social media monarchy.

53 million reasons why to do PR for your startup at launch

So FreeAgent sold for £53million. The news spread through Edinburgh like wildfire – everyone heard.

This blog is my story – rambling in places, but please indulge me – about my time with FreeAgent and the role PR played in its launch and formative first four years.

In 2008 Hot Tin Roof was asked by Ed Molyneux to give a presentation to the Digital Marketing Meetup on Digital PR. Ed was the advance guard of FreeAgent and had just arrived in Edinburgh ahead of Olly and Roan. He had been asked by Nigel Eccles, then of HubDub (what would become Fanduel), to stand in for him. Apps, Widgets and Jpegs

Thursday, February 22nd, 2018

At Hot Tin Rood, we specialise in PR for tech companies. We keep up to date with all the latest trends in digital technology, from new kit and software, to more general concepts and ideas. We all have an interest in tech and do a pretty good job of this. It may take a couple read-throughs and the occasional Google search but we always ‘get it’ in the end.

Given this background you might think that in our day-to-day work we’d bring some time saving, innovative and enabling tech to bear. And you’d be right. Now, we’ve all read these types of ‘listicles’ before. You know the sort of thing – ‘10 best apps for choosing your socks’ or ‘7 free downloads that will change your working life so that you only need to spend 4 hours a week in the office’ and so on. Well, here we’ll be telling you what we actually use, what we do with it and why. We could be drummed out of the Magic Circle for this!

Thomas Miller – Return to Hot Tin Roof

Wednesday, February 7th, 2018

When we think of PR, most of us have an image of glitz, glamour and Prosecco. Ab Fab anyone?

As a young and naïve 15 year old, I wanted to find out for myself and went to work at PR agency Hot Tin Roof.

At the time I wasn’t entirely sure what would be expected of me. To be honest, I had a rather slim understanding of what public relations actually was.

The Hot Tin Roof ‘Blue Monday’ playlist

Monday, January 15th, 2018

The Hot Tin Roof Resolutions

Wednesday, January 10th, 2018

New year, new you? It’s that time of year when we hit the gym, look at what we eat and decide on what we’d like to achieve in the coming months. The cats here at Hot Tin Roof are no exception, so here’s a brief round up of what we’re aiming for in 2018:

Sarah

I grew up in the 70s and rebelled against Mum’s home baking and ‘health foods’.  Give me Pizza, Crisps, Mac Cheese and M&S Lasagne!  Now I’ve come full circle, revelling in seeds, nuts, gluten free and non-dairy.  My resolution is to continue falling in love with healthy eating.
