From quantum leaps to EV sweeps: Hot Tin Roof’s July media blitz
What do quantum physics, a Dundee roundabout, Taylor Swift and French EVs have in common? Us! Just another month in the life of Edinburgh PR agency, Hot Tin Roof.
A quantum leap for little old Hot Tin Roof
POV: You get worldwide media coverage for a story about quantum physics. The hits just keep rolling in with over 210 pieces of coverage secured so far, including a double page spread in The Scotsman and an (almost) full page in the P&J.
We filmed and edited a package for global news agency Reuters and also secured STV’s evening television news programme, numerous radio bulletins plus an extended interview on BBC Radio Scotland’s flagship breakfast programme.
Other hits include The Independent, The Herald, The Metro, Daily Mail, The Sun, The Evening Standard’s Tech & Science podcast and Forth 1.
And the story? The promise of an unhackable internet.
Despite the complexity of quantum physics, we made the topic easy to understand for all audiences. We showcased Heriot-Watt University’s position at the forefront of quantum research and also emphasised Scotland’s role in driving global scientific innovation.
Talk about turning science speak into headline heat! Hot Tin Roof has a knack for taking those mind-bending breakthroughs and serving them up as widely-shared news stories that capture the public’s imagination.
Global headlines for this entente cordiale
Our work to publicise Source, a joint venture between our client SSE and French giant TotalEnergies, was a huge success with 175 pieces of coverage achieved around the globe. We saw hits in publications across Europe, the USA, Russia, India, and China, and major news outlets including BBC News, Reuters, Bloomberg, and the Financial Times which covered the story as well. Overall, the announcement about the creation of this new player in the EV infrastructure space has generated a whopping estimated 3.63 million views.
EV-ily done, if you know how
SSE also launched Scotland’s most powerful EV charging hub at the Myrekirk roundabout in Dundee this month. The BBC had the broadcast exclusive while the print exclusive was given to local newspaper, The Courier. The coverage was overwhelmingly positive with hits across mainstream news and trade media.
Hitting the road with BT Group
After jumping on board with BT Group in Scotland, we helped them hit the road – literally! From Kirkwall to the Scottish Borders, we announced over 40 events to help raise awareness of the change from analogue to digital landlines by the end of January 2027.
From nabbing spots for our spokesperson on local BBC radio stations to placing coverage across Scottish regional and national titles, this public information campaign followed hot on the heels of our first story for BT’s innovation and incubation arm Etc. – turning old green cabinets into EV chargers!
Exclusive: Ameca is a Swiftie
What happens when you ask some bright and curious school children to meet one of the world’s most advanced humanoid robots? Well, we got the answer when a group of pupils from Lasswade met Ameca at the National Robotarium!
Hot Tin Roof secured interest for a UK broadcast exclusive with ITV, giving its viewers some respite from the election coverage. Internationally, we filmed footage for Reuters agency as well as the EFE agency in Spain which resulted in coverage all around the world.
And if you’re wondering what our junior roboticists asked Ameca, we can reveal that she is in fact a Taylor Swift fan and ‘can appreciate the emotional depth of her music’!
